 A Different Kind of Ending

Jonah 4:1-11

 “Those who are well have no need of a physician,

but those who are sick. But go and learn what this means:

‘I desire mercy and not sacrifice.’” Matthew 9:12

 Question: Why does God desire mercy and not sacrifice?

 Answer:

          1. Lack of mercy is an obstacle to the work of God.

 A. Jonah’s reaction to God’s mercy 

B. Our response to God’s mercy 

          2. Lack of mercy is a barrier to fellowship with God.

A. What Jonah’s lack of mercy revealed about  his knowledge of God

B. What our mercy reveals about our relationship with God.

3. Lack of mercy is an invitation to the discipline of God.

          A. God’s creative lesson in Jonah’s life.

B. God’s creative purpose in our lives
